A Rice & Beans Color Sorter is a high-speed, optical-electromechanical machine designed to automatically detect and remove discolored, defective, or foreign material from a stream of rice grains or beans based on color differences. It ensures the final product's uniformity, purity, and food safety.
Working Principle (Key Stages):
1. Feeding & Alignment: Product is fed from a hopper onto a vibrating tray or chute, which spreads grains into a single, uniform layer before they enter the detection zone.
2. Optical Detection & Analysis: As the grains free-fall or slide rapidly through the detection chamber, they pass under a set of high-resolution CCD cameras or sensors.
· Illumination is provided by a stable, consistent LED light source (often multiple wavelengths, including visible and sometimes near-infrared/NIR).
· Cameras capture detailed color information of each individual grain from multiple angles.
· Sophisticated image processing software analyzes the data in real-time, comparing each grain's color, shape, and spectral characteristics against pre-set acceptance thresholds. It identifies defects like yellow kernels, black spots, mold, stones, glass, or foreign beans.
3. Ejection & Separation: When a defective grain or foreign material is identified:
· The system calculates its exact position in the falling stream.
· At the precise moment, it triggers a bank of high-speed solenoid air jets (valves).
· A short, powerful burst of compressed air deflects the defective particle into a reject chute.
· The acceptable grains continue their natural trajectory into the "good product" collection chute.
